Class 4 Reading Response

I chose to focus my reading on the sections: Social Software and Media Creation and Sharing.

The rise of the participation culture emcompasses many applications, tools, and resources for sharing, many which are free if you subscribe and become a member. The difference in this web 2.0 era, is the variety and choices that users have. The internet has become a live, active ever-changing medium, where anyones interests and likes can be met. From socializing to photography, to creating your own sites, videos etc. the options are limitless it seems. Despite the hype on social networking and participation one can still choose to keep their blogs, videos etc. private.

It's almost as if there is "too" many choices in terms of applications and tools to choose from. The well-known social software like myspace and facebook, and media creation/hosting sites like flickr and YouTube have gotten a lot of attention, but their are many others out their.

The internet has become a wonderful technology for communicating, socializing, creation, and above all, sharing with others. Public or private.
